REC
REG 27 JUL 16
24 July 1916.
I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of
His Majesty's Treasury your letter of the 12th ultimo
25188/16) and its enclosures relative to the liquidation of enemy firms in Hong Kong.
My Lords understand that the Management of the British Establishment of the Disconto-Gesellschaft have
now received a cheque for £8,763.15.4 from the Liquidators of Messrs Jebsen and Company, Hong Kong,in settlement of
their claim.
In regard to the claims against Messrs Carlowitz and Company and Messrs W. Meyerink and Company, My Lords learn from the Official Supervisor of the Bank that the Management have produced to him the documents in both these cases showing that the Hong Kong Branches of these firms undertook joint liability with the Hamburg and Shanghai Branches respectively for the payment of amounts due by the latter Branches to the London Branch of the Direction der Disconto-Gesellschaft. If and when there are funds available in the hands of the Liquidators of Messrs Carlo- witz and Company and Messrs W. Meyerink and Company, My Lords would suggest that the Liquidators should be instructed to discharge the obligations of those firms to
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
